The Village
Board the ferry in Crisfield for a ten mile voyage to the idyllic watermen village of Tylerton on Maryland's Smith Island in the Chesapeake Bay. Spared roads, motor vehicles and much sense pollution, Tylerton, sixty residents separated by water from the rest of Smith, is the remote place you didn't think existed anymore. This is the community Tom Horton celebrated in his An Island Out of Time.
Walk or use our bikes; match wits with King Tide or go birding in our canoes and kayak; engage locals in store or Women's Crab Picking Coop; read about island's history and culture; charter waterman's working boat for tutorial on his craft; tour soft shell crab shanties; visit the Smith Island Cultural Center in Ewell; read; marvel; sleep.

Each guestroom offers a fresh sunny interior, a charming mix of antiques and flea market finds, a great bed, many books, and a view over water of the rising or setting sun. "English cottage", mused one guest.
All rooms come with gourmet breakfast. Perhaps you would enjoy puffed German apple pancakes on the screened porch, the water sparkling twenty feet away.
As the only restaurant in Tylerton to do so, the Inn offers a well-received 3-4 course dinner featuring local seafood for $25/person.

However, you might be distracted from your baked rockfish topped with crab in a tarragon and fennel crust and famous Smith Island eight-layer cake by the sun sinking gloriously into the bay before you. The Drum Point Market, the local hangout, offers lunch featuring their acclaimed crab cakes.

The innkeepers, Rob & Linda Kellogg, are retired from professional careers in the fields of
education and engineering. They bring to the Inn of Silent Music a love of the Bay grown
from living in Baltimore and Havre de Grace. To this, add their shared interests in the outdoors
and a passion for fine cooking and hospitality. They will be anxiously awaiting your arrival along with their
